Split Decision

I’m lucky enough to be involved in Zak Sandler and Greg Edwards’ show, Split Decision. It follows the story of a writer, Daniel (played by me), who is faced with an impossible decision: Should he trade his current life — and promising-new-boyfriend, Ryan — in New York for guaranteed professional success on the West Coast? The musical follows both outcomes: Daniel stays, but his alter-ego Danny (played by Chris Critelli) literally splits off and pursues his career in LA.

  • The Greatest Story Ever Written. In the opening song, Daniel finishes a story of which he particularly proud, only to be met with less-than-ideal responses from the publishing industry.
  • The Manual for Life. Things aren’t going quite as planned for Daniel, who doubts his choice to stay behind at his thankless job, writing manuals for toasters and other household appliances.
  • Our Little Swedish Home. Things eventually turn around, and the relationship with Ryan (sung here by Chris Critelli) leads where such things often do: IKEA.

Video Clips

A few years ago, I did some commercials for TV Land — three of the five spots I did are represented here. The other one, for the California Department of Mental Health, was shot on spec for the director’s reel.

At a benefit for the NY Theatre Barn, David Perlman and I sang the brilliant (C)han(n)uk(k)a(h) Song by Sammy Buck and Dan Aquisto.

“My” episode of the Forbidden Broadway: Behind the Mylar series by Bill Selby. This was shot the day we recorded the Forbidden Broadway Goes to Rehab cast album.

When Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening won the Drama Desk Award, I got to do some promotion with Gerard Alessandrini, the show’s creator. This one, with Stephen Holt at the nominees’ luncheon, was my first.
